On August 31, 1935, one of baseball’s greatest legends was born.

Frank Robinson wasn’t simply a great hitter. He was a force of nature.

Over a remarkable 21-year Major League career, Robinson collected 586 home runs, 2,943 hits, 1,812 RBIs and a Triple Crown. He was an All-Star 14 times and became the first player to win MVP honors in both the American and National Leagues.

But his story was about much more than statistics.

In 1966, Robinson arrived in Baltimore and immediately changed the Orioles. He won the American League MVP, captured the Triple Crown and led Baltimore to its first World Series championship.

He was that good.

And then came another historic chapter.

In 1975, Frank Robinson became the first African-American manager in Major League Baseball history, serving as player-manager of the Cleveland Indians. He was breaking barriers while still taking his place in the lineup.

That’s what makes Robinson’s legacy so remarkable.

He was a superstar.

He was a pioneer.
