Some athletes have great careers.

Tom Heinsohn had a great Celtics career.

Born on August 26, 1934, Heinsohn arrived in Boston in 1956 and immediately became part of one of the greatest dynasties in sports history. He won eight NBA championships as a player, was a six-time All-Star, and was named Rookie of the Year.

And he wasn’t finished.

Heinsohn later returned to the Celtics bench and won two more championships as a head coach. He eventually became one of the most recognizable voices in basketball broadcasting, spending decades calling Celtics games alongside Mike Gorman.

Player. Coach. Broadcaster.

Ten championships.

That’s not just a basketball career. That’s a lifetime of being a Celtic.

Tom Heinsohn passed away in 2020, but his fingerprints remain all over the franchise—and his place in NBA history is secure.
